Are you attracted to rustic and primitive?  If so, you may like the wabi-sabi aesthetic.  It eschews the glossy and uniform for the rough and irregular.

The days of burning old boards are over.  Wood is expensive and  the look of a floor or a cabinet that is mellowed with age and battle scars has character.

Many times you can find advertisements for old beams and boards in your local paper.   Incorporating aged wood in your home through cabinetry or beams is a great way to bring warmth to a space.  If nothing else, a large wooden bowl on a bare table will help make any room feel more homey.
